So what have we in the CN® Certified Nutritionist community accomplished in America since we began in 1979, thirty-years ago?

Basically we have provided leadership in raising the issue of the value of nutrition, health and life enhancement as a vital component of America’s health care system.

Our new president has included Health Care as one of the three or four most important items to deal with when he takes office   January 2009.

Incidentally one of the other top issues on his agenda is repairing the economic system. I don’t think that you can talk about economics without talking about health care and visa versa.

Further, education is a thorny issue that needs some serious consideration. Talking about health care without talking about the need to educate by changing attitudes in regard to who is responsible for what.

I think “Health” should be #1, not diagnosing or prescribing for disease but teaching ways to raise health levels where ever they may be. If we are a healthy country we can deal much better with all that the future holds in store for us.

In any event we will have things to do. Our final mission will be accomplished in 2010 when the Health Knowledge Provider Profession has been established and is functioning.

A typical Health Knowledge Provider (HKP) will be a graduate of the CN® Certified Nutritionist program or something similar and will have accumulated new  knowledge and experience. His/Her job will be to establish the concept of raising-health levels whatever they may be by focusing on changing attitudes about health responsibilities up and down the line and across the board.

His/Her range of overall duties and responsibilities, because of the high tech-immediate and infinite information and unlimited possibilities age we live in this century is beyond the imagination of today’s health care concepts.

You know where we are going. Now, how about a few lines about   where we have been.

Being first is a good sign of leadership. Other definitions include:
To lead: 1. to go before or with to show the way, conduct or escort 2. to conduct or change a particular course. 3. To conduct or bring about a certain action or a particular course.

To provide leadership=1. The position or function of a leader 2. Having the ability to lead, 3. an act or instance of leading, guiding or directing,

Our goal is to convince the public the value if the combination of nutrition, health, life enhancement, education and changing attitudes at the individual level is the best way to raise health levels in America.

The culture of resistance to our mission has been extremely challenging and at times downright overwhelming but we have prevailed.

Our record includes a list of leadership activities conducted thorough the National Institute of Nutritional Education (NINE), American Health Science University (AHSU) and the Institute of American Health and Science (IAHS) since 1979.
